I had just about given up on tracking down Bruce when I ran into him in 1996 here in Plano while dining out. Turns out he was a registered nurse in Allen, Texas - just a few miles from where I live.
Since then, Bruce and his family have moved back to Big Spring.
Shortly afterwards, Bruce dropped by my house to talk over old times and watch the video of our 1971
senior trip. During that visit I learned what Bruce has been up to since our senior year:
- Bruce joined the Navy right after graduating in May 1971 and served four years
- During his tour of duty, Bruce was stationed at Virginia Beach, Virginia - but travelled the globe. Bruce spent time in Scotland, England, Italy and even the polar ice caps!
- After leaving the Navy in 1975, Bruce returned to Big Spring and enrolled at Howard College
- Bruce also attended nursing school at Howard College and while there met his wife, Martha
- Bruce graduated in 1979 and went to work in the oil industry before going into his nursing career
- Bruce and his family moved to the Dallas area in 1986
Bruce and Martha have two children, Jeremy and Melissa. Jeremy looks amazingly like Bruce did back in high school.
Bruce says his hobbies include tennis and reading. When I asked about what he remembered most about high school, he commented that he "was glad it's over".
