You may have noticed that I've included a number of Beatle tunes as background music for various ares of the Class of 1971 web site.
Originally I thought it was because the music just "seemed to fit" the theme of the pages. It was only later that it hit me how closely tied the Class of 1971 was with the Fab Four.
As mentioned before, many of us in the Class of 1971 were together from first grade to graduation. When we were in first grade The Beatles were a "skittle" group known as The Silver Beatles, playing nightclubs in Hamburg.
By the time we reached the third grade, The Beatles were beginning their invasion of America. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" reached number one on the charts in January, 1964.
By the time we entered our senior year, The Beatles were gone - ending their career with "The Long and Winding Road". But in the interim, the group from Liverpool managed to place a record number of memorable songs on the Billboard "Hot 100" record charts.
A final irony: The Beatles disbanded just as the Class of 1971 were finishing high school and yet they "reunited" for the Anthology special just in time for our 25th reunion!

The first Beatle song to hit the Billboard charts occurred in 1963 when the Class of 1971 was still in the third grade. From that point on, The Beatles were a musical factor right up until our senior year.
